"Prelude To Mountain Ghost" is an ongoing exploration of identity and queerness through the lens of ancient Chinese mythology and poetry, expressed and embodied through contemporary dance. In the summer of 2023, Po-Nien began this journey from a deeply personal place, drawing on his lived experience as a Taiwanese queer artist, and imagining a path forward through his creation.

Over the past two years, Po-Nien has presented this piece in various settings and locations, gradually realising that his creative process mirrors his queer identity - a continues state of “becoming” over time.

"Prelude To Mountain Ghost” is now a 25-minute piece that can be performed in both traditional theatre and site-specific space. However, it also holds the potential to grow into a full-length performance of approximately 45 minutes. To realised this extended version, a further period of artistic residency would be essential, offering time and space for continued research and creative development. Po-Nien looks forward to the next chapter and the opportunity it will bring.
